Job Summary

The position of Senior Area Loss Prevention Manager is primarily responsible for all Loss Prevention and Security issues within an assigned geographic area. The position exists to prevent, detect, and control shrinkage and loss at an acceptable level. The area of assignment may include, but is not limited to, retail/outlet stores, transportation and attended donation centers, and other buildings and/or property owned or operated by Seattle Goodwill. The Senior Area Loss Prevention Manager will also recruit, train, supervise and performance rate any assigned Loss Prevention personnel. The number of assigned facilities and LP personnel will vary by assignment.

 

Essential Functions:

Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates all assigned Loss Prevention managers/agents/or guards.

Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with local management at facilities within area of assignment.

Effectively apprehend and/or deter shoplifters and ticket-switchers (or others) who are attempting to misappropriate organizational assets.

Perform all job functions in a safe, ethical, and legal manner.

Protect the organization from foreseeable litigation at all times.

Treat all shoplifters and other detainees with dignity, courtesy and respect at all times.

Provide customers and employees with the highest level of customer service possible.

Properly document and/or maintain files of all activity. Effectively use the Loss Prevention database for all case files (PERSPECTIVE).

Write detention reports as soon as possible (but not later than 24 hours) following the incident.

Appropriately maintain evidence of cases.

Investigate all suspected refund, credit, and check fraud within area of assignment.

Effectively employ all available technological tools including but not limited to: CCTV, POS, Time and Attendance, Alarm Systems, and Data Bases.

Pursue civil restitution for all cases where appropriate. Maintain accurate documentation in files regarding restitution status.

Forward all written requests for civil compromise to the Vice President of Loss Prevention along with recommendation for approval/disapproval, extenuating circumstances, and current status of restitution payment.

Immediately forward all attorney communication to the Vice President of Loss Prevention.

Immediately report all non-productive detentions to the Vice President of Loss Prevention.

Professionally represent Seattle Goodwill in all court hearings and dress accordingly.

Ensure that all CCTV equipment is functional and operating properly.

Assist in the installation/movement or repair of CCTV equipment when requested to do so.

Effectively schedule any budgeted contract security hours in area of assignment to achieve the most effective results. Review all schedules prepared by the contract company in advance of implementation.

Regularly verify that contract security agents are adhering to the agreed upon schedule.

Promptly review all security company invoices for proper billing in area of assignment.

Conduct regularly scheduled, random, and pinpoint surveillances at assigned facilities and ADCs. Surveillances will include open and closed hours. (Surveillances are generally solitary assignments that will involve late nights, secluded areas, and inclement weather.)

Conduct and document regular (scheduled and unscheduled) compliance audits in each facility within assigned area of responsibility including but not limited to: cash handling, cash office procedures, locker checks, bag checks, seal control, alarm procedures, key control, opening and closing procedures, discrepancy reporting, employee purchasing, mishandling, safety compliance, and identification badge compliance.

Communicate areas of probable/possible internal loss activity to the Regional Investigator. Obtain permission of the Vice President of Loss Prevention prior to proceeding with any internal investigation or the installation of any covert CCTV equipment.

Conduct regular audits of facility key control and ensure that all keys are properly accounted for.

Conduct regular audits of alarms, reports, and documentation of alarm walk-tests. Verify and document the integrity of at least one walk-test per facility per quarter.  

Verify that alarm call lists and access lists are current and that alarms code are not proliferated.

Respond to afterhours alarm calls as necessary.

Verify that safe combinations are changed promptly when warranted by staff change or compromise.

Conduct and document quarterly training meetings at facilities within area of assignment on a loss prevention/safety/security related subject. Maintain meeting notes to include names and signatures of all attendees.

Work at least one retail-closing shift and one early opening shift per assigned location per month.

Attend loss prevention related training as directed.

Conduct First-Aid/CPR training in area of assignment as necessary.

Respond to and render immediate first-aid to customers/employees/volunteers/visitors and clients as necessary.

Assist the Safety Manager when requested and maintain open lines of communication regarding all safety issues.

Regularly participate in evacuation drills, and safety meetings.

Upholds safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; train and educate employees of safety requirements; reports any potential hazards or accidents.

Assist with new store openings and store closures. Effectively protect the assets of Seattle Goodwill during the entire construction/closing phases.

Submit timely reports as directed by the Vice President of Loss Prevention.

Submit schedules (in advance) to the VP of Loss Prevention for approval.

Keep the Vice President of Loss Prevention informed of all significant events.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree Preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.

Specific Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Wicklander or Reid certification required. LPC certification preferred.

First Aid/CPR certification (Instructor trained within 6 months of hire).

Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Access to a personal vehicle at all times and maintain acceptable insurance coverage.

 

Essential Physical Abilities:

Lifting and carrying 20-30 pounds; Must have well-developed fine motor control and the ability to grasp, handle, finger and manipulate small and large items.  Must be able to: perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, without pain or loss of function.  Able to travel across a wide variety of surfaces including, but not limited to, ramps, stairs, and uneven terrain, and able to do so at a rapid pace if required.  Able to climb ladders and use various lift and material moving equipment. Able to use a standard telephone and wireless audio communication system; sit or stand for moderately long periods of time; use a standard keyboard/computer; communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people, including those with limited English skills.

Retail, warehouse and office working environments and schedules.

Some late night, inclement weather, secluded area and solitary assignments.

Local Candidates Preferred/No moving allowance is associated with this position
