Seattle Goodwill offers college internship opportunities throughout the organization focusing primarily in the administrative and mission services departments. The Staff Accountant Intern will gain a general understanding of accounting duties in a non-profit organization.

This position is an unpaid internship. The internship will last until the end of the 2020 Spring College Quarter/Semester. 12-20 hours per week depending on students availability.

 

Essential Functions:

Assist with General Ledger and Fixed Asset accounting tasks.

Assist in the preparation of monthly journal entries including accruals.

Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.

Research/analyze budget and revenue/expense variances and provide documentation and feedback to Accounting Director.

Perform account reconciliation for various balance sheet accounts, including some bank account reconciliation.

Preparation of B&O/sales tax returns.

Assist Accounting Director with the research, analysis and application of GAAP to various accounting issues as they arise.

Assist in the preparation of audit schedules for year-end audit.

Promote and maintain good internal/external customer service standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Job Requirements

Education: Completed sophomore year towards Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

Experience: Must be a recent graduate or actively in college.

Specific Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Basis understanding of accounting and financial principles. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to learn new software as appropriate and necessary to the job. Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers. Willingness to learn.

 

Essential Physical Abilities:

Lifting and carrying 10 pounds; reach above head level; full range of body motion with the ability to stoop, bend and squat; grasp, handle, finger and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, including but not limited to keyboards and calculators. Able to move through a wide variety of physical environments without assistance; including ramps, stairs, small spaces and uneven terrain. Able to sit for long periods of time. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills. Able to use standard office equipment without assistance, and a standard keyboard for long periods of time. Maintain reliable attendance.
