Job Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible managing routes and driver/laborer performance on a daily basis in multiple line of businesses: Donation pickup, Roll-Off and Tractor Trailer.


Essential Functions

Oversee all transportation operations including deliveries to and from stores, ADC's warehouses, special events, and waste removal.

Plans, distributes, monitors, and follows-up daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards and agreements. Maintain rapport with donation sites, stores and vendors to ensure quality service and support.

Prepare truck drivers and dispatchers work schedules. Knowledgeable of working with GPS/Fleet management solution systems.

Maintain appropriate staffing levels through recruiting and hiring.

Direct, coach, counsel and evaluate job performance of employees. Partner with Human Resources on employee relations issues.

Approve vacation and schedule modifications. Maintain attendance/punctuality records, review sick leave, overtime, wages and salary issues. Ensure that payroll information is accurate for processing.

Maintains and reports budget P&L for Transportation Operations.

Reviews weekly demand / volume for routes, determines potential gains from re-routing, and recommends re-routes to the routing specialist.

Sets and monitors productivity, service, and safety targets for each route and driver.

Documents and maintains records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.

Reviews and audits documentation related to route operations on a daily basis (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following-up where appropriate.

Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled Transportation Department meetings.

Uphold safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; train and educate employees of safety requirements; reports any potential hazards or accidents.

Ensure compliance with all Seattle Goodwill policies and DOT and Federal safety and security regulations.

Schedule tractors and trailers for regular preventative maintenance and coordinate equipment replacement and repair as needed. Assists in determining rental requirements and equipment needs.

Maintain accurate record keeping for all maintenance and repairs on Transportation equipment.

Prepare and maintain all necessary operational reports and records as assigned.

Communicate organizational goals, expectations, and values to direct reports.

Plan for and implement efficiencies in Transportation operations.

Act as a liaison for the department when working with other Seattle Goodwill departments.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education: High School diploma required, college degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in Transportation environment with 2 years dispatch or supervisory experience required.    

Specific Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Experience or working knowledge of logistics, shipping, receiving, scheduling, interviewing and hiring.

Demonstrated knowledge of transportation and DOT equipment maintenance requirements.

Knowledge of all applicable federal and state transportation regulations.

Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Strong coaching/managerial experience, good computer skills, and overall transportation experience. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Proficient of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Required: Valid Washington State driver's license, ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends. Available to be on call at night and on weekends.

Must be able to pass Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol test.


Essential Physical Abilities:

Lifting and carrying 50-75 pound; to reach above head level, developed fine motor control (grasp, handle, manipulate objects with fingers; standing for long periods of time; frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, squatting, pushing; climbing ladders; able to travel across a variety of surfaces (stairs, ramps, uneven terrain) At all times must be able to operate a forklift or other heavy machinery in a safe and responsible manner. Able to use a standard telephone and wireless audio communication system; sit or stand for moderately long periods of time, communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people, including those with limited English skills. Must be able to maintain reliable attendance.
